Interesting Dulcimers

I've added a few pages of dulcimer photos to show the diversity of this family of instruments.

The inspiration for these pages came from two sources. Vince Hearns sent me a fascinating photo of his grandfather's old Dulcimer, which lay in an outhouse for thirty years. Then I visited Fred Woodley's site, which has some wonderful old photographs of Dulcimers & Dulcimer players of the Birmingham area. It is well worth a look. Fred Woodley -

I hope you enjoy browsing through these pages. If you have any small jpgs of interesting Hammered Dulcimers, especially if there is an interesting story to them, then please feel free to send them to me & I'll happily add them to these pages.

Names for the hammered dulcimer in different countries include: Austria - Hackbrett, Brazil – Saltério, Cambodia – Khim, China – Yangqin, Germany – Hackbrett, Greece – Santouri, Hungary – Cimbalom, India – Santoor, Iran – Santur, Italy – Salterio, Korea - Yanggum, Laos – Khim, Mexico – Salterio, Netherlands – Hakkebord, Romania – Tambal, Spain – Salterio, Sweden - Hackbräda, Hammarharpa, Switzerland - Hackbrett, Hachbrattli, Thailand – Khim, United States - Hammered Dulcimer, Yiddish - Tsimbl.

I will hopefully be constantly updating these pages, as generous players send me small jpgs of interesting instruments & accessories, so please call back.
